Engagement models

How a mandate is structured, and how it is paid for.

The commercial model follows from the work. These are the structures we can propose; which one applies, and its final terms, are agreed in writing for each assignment before work starts.

ModelWhen it fitsWhat you receiveHow fees work
Retained searchPermanent hires Senior, scarce or confidential roles where the search has to reach people who are not looking. Role and success profile, market map, a short list of assessed candidates, offer and onboarding support. Fee agreed per mandate, typically in stages across the search. Any replacement provision, and its conditions, is set out in the mandate agreement.
Contingent searchPermanent hires Specialist roles with a clear profile where a wider market sweep is useful. Screened and interviewed candidates, presented with a written assessment. Payable on a successful hire, as an agreed percentage or fixed amount. Any replacement terms are stated in the agreement.
Contractor assignmentProject capacity A defined project or workstream that needs senior expertise for a set period. Named contractors, an agreed scope and deliverables, regular check-ins with the project lead. Day or hourly rate agreed in advance; invoiced monthly against approved timesheets.
Interim mandateLeadership continuity A vacancy, a turnaround or a period of change that needs an experienced executive now. A written interim mandate, the executive in the seat, structured reviews and a handover plan. Day rate for the interim executive; the mandate definition can be agreed as a fixed fee.
Advisory projectStrategy and board counsel A decision to prepare, a strategy to test or a board to brief within a clear timeframe. Working sessions, a decision memorandum or board pack, and a plan with named owners. Fixed fee for a defined scope, or a monthly retainer for ongoing counsel.
Transition programOutplacement Individual departures or group programs where people and reputation both matter. One-to-one coaching, market insight, search plan and support until the agreed end point. Fixed fee per participant or per program, agreed in advance with the employer.

No fees are published here because they depend on seniority, scope and duration. The written proposal sets out the commercial model, deliverables, timing and payment terms before you commit.

Coverage and confidentiality

Where we work, and the rules we work by.

Talent, advisory and interim work all touch employment law, data protection and, increasingly, AI regulation. We plan for these from the first brief rather than treating them as paperwork at the end.

Regions

  • Switzerland, headquartered in Baar (Zug)
  • Germany and Austria, the wider DACH market
  • Europe for cross-border searches and programs
  • International mandates with a European base

Languages

  • Work in English and German
  • Documents, briefs and reports in either language
  • Candidate assessments in the language of the role
  • Further languages through our specialist network on request

Frameworks we observe

  • Swiss FADP and the EU GDPR for all personal data
  • The EU AI Act in our AI advisory work
  • Local notice and consultation rules in outplacement

Confidentiality

  • A non-disclosure agreement before a confidential brief, on request
  • Candidate details shared only with consent and on a need-to-know basis
  • Confidential searches run under a code name
  • Candidates are not approached from a client organization while we work on its assignment

This overview is not legal advice. Where an assignment raises questions of employment, staff-leasing or regulatory law, we work alongside your counsel or recommend specialist advisers.

Sectors

We do not publish sector specialisms the partners cannot substantiate. In a first conversation we explain whether, and how, our partners’ previous experience is relevant to your sector, and we say so plainly if it is not.

Questions

Frequently asked questions.

Fuller answers on scope, fees, confidentiality, coverage and commercial relationships. If your question is not here, ask us directly.

How do we start, and what do you need from us?

A short description of the role, project or decision is enough: what has to happen, by when and why it matters. We follow up with a conversation to understand the context, then send a written proposal. You do not need a finished job description or a formal RFP to begin.

Which service is right for our situation?

Often that is the first question to answer. A leadership gap can call for an interim executive, a permanent search or both in sequence; a delayed project may need contractors, or a clearer scope first. We will recommend what fits and say so if a simpler or smaller solution would serve you better.

Can several services be combined in one mandate?

Yes. A common combination is an interim executive who holds the seat while we run the permanent search, or advisory work on an AI strategy followed by recruitment for the team that has to deliver it. One partner remains accountable for the entire combined mandate.

How are fees set?

Fees reflect the scope and type of assignment: for example staged fees for a retained search, a success fee for a contingent search, day rates for contractors and interim executives, and fixed fees or retainers for advisory work. Any replacement provision on a search, and its conditions, is written into the mandate agreement. The full terms are in the written proposal before you commit. See engagement models above.

Do you work with confidential searches and sensitive decisions?

Yes. We can sign a non-disclosure agreement before you share the brief, run the search under a code name, and share candidate details only with the people you name. Board and executive advisory work is treated with the same discretion.

Do you work outside Switzerland?

Yes. We are based in Baar (Zug) and work across Switzerland, Germany and Austria, in the rest of Europe and on international mandates. For contractor assignments, the applicable employment and staff-leasing rules of the country where the work takes place are assessed for each assignment and reflected in the proposal.

Are you tied to particular technology vendors?

No. We name ecosystems such as Microsoft Azure, AWS, Google Cloud, Salesforce, SAP, Snowflake and Databricks because much enterprise technology work runs on them. We hold no reseller or implementation partnerships with these platforms, and we receive no payment linked to the platform you choose. The one product we represent is ClearView WorkSuite by SBSI, a tool for comparing the cost of HCM and ERP platforms, and we are remunerated when a client licenses it through us. The next answer explains how that is kept separate from our advice.

How does the SBSI relationship affect your independence?

Cloud Tower Group is SBSI’s appointed representative for ClearView in Europe, and we are remunerated when a client licenses ClearView through us. Shane Watson, SBSI’s co-founder and CEO, also sits on our Board Advisory. We keep this separate from our advice in four ways: the relationship is disclosed in writing in every proposal; ClearView is never a condition of an advisory mandate, and you are free to use another method or none; SBSI does not sell or implement HCM or ERP platforms, and neither SBSI nor we receive any payment linked to the platform you choose; and our advisory fees are agreed independently of any ClearView licence.

What happens to candidate and client data?

Personal data is processed under the Swiss FADP and the EU GDPR, used only for the mandate it was provided for and deleted or anonymized according to our privacy notice. Candidates are asked for consent before their profile is shared with a client.

I am a candidate. How do I get in touch?

We are always glad to hear from specialists and leaders in AI, cloud, data and enterprise platforms. Please use the candidate route on our Tech Recruitment page rather than the client form, so your details reach the right place.
